Abstract: During the talk I would present the main findings of my MA research that was focused on exploring the participation of Vilnius Roma families in current migration processes and how these transnational (im)mobility experiences shape their social practices and imagination about a better life. It also contributes to a better understanding of a socio-economic situation and lived experiences of what does it mean to be Roma in Lithuania. As my research showed, (im)mobility studies can be a valuable framework to investigate not only social environments, practices and experiences of migrants in the receiving countries but also in the country of origin. Studying Vilnius Roma families’ participation in transnational (im)mobility challenges stereotypical thinking and zooms in circulating anti-gypsyism in our society that needs to be addressed.
